Information on the renewal of the Puerto Calero concession

Dear users of Puerto Calero, it is in all of our best interests that we keep you fully informed about the Puerto Calero concession renewal process that is currently under way.

Obtaining an extension for this port concession is of benefit to both the common interest and local economic development, and is the only guarantee that exists for the future viability of this port, the businesses that operate here, the jobs of the people who work here and for the users of this marina themselves.

Such an extension can only be requested by the concessionaire, which is also entitled to grant usage rights to third parties for the duration of said concession.

The original term of the concession is fast approaching expiry, and obtaining an extension forms part of a project that is finally reaching a culmination after ten years of hard work.

The extension requested by Puerto Calero strictly complies with current regulations. The port regulations of both Spain and the Canary Islands allow for concessionaires to request this kind of extension in full compliance with all established legal requirements.

Extending the current concession will enable continued support for economic and social development in this area while maintaining all the nautical, tourism and business activities for which Puerto Calero has become known. The extension will guarantee stability for all the investments made in the past and create new jobs, thereby benefiting rights holders, residents on the island and visitors.

What do you need to know if you are a holder of usage rights?

For all those holders of usage rights wishing to renew those rights for the new concession term, the company can guarantee a series of special conditions that will be negotiated with the best interests of the marina and its uses in mind at all times.

What do you need to know if you lease a service from Puerto Calero (moorings and commercial premises)?

The fees and rates to be paid during the new concession term will remain entirely unchanged. It is the intention of Puerto Calero not to impose conditions, fees or uses for the installations that are in any way prejudicial to users or rights holders.

All contracts governing commercial premises will be renewed under the same terms and conditions that exist at the present time.

History

Puerto Calero SA received a concession from the Spanish government to develop and operate Puerto Calero for a period of 40 years. Over that time, a pioneering marina was developed in Lanzarote to attract a tourism sector that is heavily tailored to the destination. Millions of euros have been invested not only in port infrastructure and services but also in raising the profile of this marina through international events that have positioned Puerto Calero and Lanzarote as a first-class sailing destination.

Besides the concessionaire itself, the marina is home to an extensive economic ecosystem that is inhabited by employees, sailing companies, berth leaseholders, commercial premises leaseholders, apartment users, holders of usage rights, users and visitors in general, as well as hotels, private homes and tourist villas in the neighbouring residential development that benefit from the services offered by the port.
