THE PUERTO CALERO MARLIN CUP CHAMPION WINS THEWORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN COSTA RICA

THE PUERTO CALERO MARLIN CUP CHAMPION WINS THEWORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN COSTA RICA
  • News Puerto Calero
  • The Rodfather, captained by Adrián Arcay, secured their place at the world championship
after winning the 32nd Puerto Calero Marlin Cup
  • With an impressive tally of 75 catches, the Canarian team was
    crowned world champions

On 18 April, The Rodfather team, led by Adrián Arcay, set sail for Costa Rica with a clear objective: to compete against the world’s elite in deep-sea fishing at the Offshore World Championship. Their qualification was no fluke, but the result of a brilliant performance months earlier, when they were crowned champions at the prestigious Puerto Calero Marlin Cup, a qualifying event for the World Championship.

The team, representing Spain, consisted of Carlos Cabrera (Tenerife), Jeremy López (La Palma), Adrián Arcay (Tenerife) and Paulino Montes de Oca (Gran Canaria), alongside captain Rudy Arguedas and
Ericka Sandi, both locals. From the very first cast, the Canarian team made it clear that they had not travelled to simply take part, but to win. A spectacular opening day, with the catch of a blue marlin and 21 sailfish, catapulted them straight to the top of the leaderboard. Far from resting on their laurels, on the second and third days they maintained the competitive edge
with precision, strategy and flawless execution.

The final result: a blue marlin, a black marlin and 73 sailfish, bringing the total to 75 catches and 3,920 points. An extraordinary achievement that earned them the title of world champions and confirmed their absolute dominance in the competition.
The Rodfather II, based in Tenerife, specifically in Adeje, is the embodiment of years of experience in deep-sea fishing in Canarian waters. A knowledge of the sea and a passion for competition that have been key to reaching the pinnacle of the world stage.

Following this historic feat, all eyes are now on the next major challenge. The excitement will return to Lanzarote on 3 and 5 October, when Puerto Calero once again becomes the epicentre of deep-sea fishing with the celebration of the 33rd Puerto Calero Marlin Cup.
