Puerto Calero celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of its established fishing tournament, and for this edition, the event will take on the Marlin Cup format.
From October 5th to 7th, the local fleet will gather in one of the most anticipated events for enthusiasts of this sport.
Furthermore, the Puerto Calero Marlin Cup – 30th Anniversary will be a qualifying event for the Costa Rica World Championship.

30 th Anniversary Puerto Calero Marlin Cup

FISHING SCHEDULE AND DATES

The 30 th Anniversary Puerto Calero Marlin Cup will take place on the 5 th , 6 th , a nd 7 th October 2023.

The skippers’ meeting will be held on the 5 th October and fishing will take place on the 6 th and 7 th of October.

Participating boats will depart at 09:00 from Puerto Calero. B oats will be able to wait on the start line between the first mark (75 metres south of the tower) and the second mark (250 metres from the previous one in a westerly direction, parallel to the breakwater). The marks will both be red. At 17.00 lines are to be reeled in and boats must return to Puerto Calero.

The Trophy Presentation Dinner will take place on Saturday 7 th October at 20.30

FISHING

Both days of fishing will be restricted to the TAG AND RELEASE OF BILLFISH (blue marlin, white marlin, spearfish or swordfish) exclusively. No marlin may be brought into port to be weighed and no other species will qualify.

QUALIFYING FISH:

-Blue m arlin: 500 points
-White m arlin, s pearfish or s wordfish: 100 points.

PROVISIONAL RULES AND REGULATIONS


FISHING ZONE AND TYPES OF FISHING

The fishing area is unlimited, although restrictions imposed by the licence or authorisation of each vessel must be respected, as well as the distances from the coast and the general rules applicable to the existing marine reserves. Under all circumstances, the Chinijo archipelago marine reserve area is excluded for all participants.

The fishing method will comprise trolling, using artificial lures or dead bait rigged exclusively with circle hooks (J-hooks within bait are forbidden).

There is no limitation of anglers or rods per boat and the IGFA rules will be applied, bearing in mind that only one single angler will be involved in the fishing from start to finish.

PRESENTATION AND SKIPPERS’ MEETING

On Thursday 5th October at 20:00 in the Plaza de Las Carpas, the presentation and meeting of the registered skippers will take plac e in order to deal with last minute matters and clarify any doubts about the tournament.

REGISTRATION

The deadline for registration is 21.00 on the 5 th October.

The registration fee, up until the 24th of September, will be 300€. From the 25 th September on wards, the fee will be 350 €. The registration fee is be paid to the following account number account number:
