Location

Puerto Calero’s location on the south-west coast of Lanzarote naturally shelters the harbour from the winds that come predominantly from the north-east.

The mountains that make up the coastline known as Punta Gorda and the proximity of the islands of Fuerteventura and Los Lobos give protection from the waves and less frequent winds from the south-west.

On foot

There are marvellous coastal paths between Puerto Calero and either Puerto del Carmen (a slow walk would take about an hour) or Playa Quemada (30-40 minutes at a strolling pace).

These walks, along unmade tracks, involve some ups and downs, but overall the terrain is not too strenuous.  They are best done during the day as it would be easy to get too close to the cliff edges under darkness of night.

The two destinations could not be more different!

Puerto del Carmen is a bustling tourist centre with a quaint Old Port, lots of shopping boutiques and a long promenade brimming with an incredible variety of bars and restaurants that follow the shoreline for miles.

Playa Quemada is a small, sleepy fishing village at the foot of the Los Ajaches Mountains with just a few restaurants offering the freshest local fish – a perfect place to enjoy a tasty tapas lunch or seafood platter.
