 – Marina Lanzarote welcomes back Jimmy Cornell in September for what has become the traditional long distance cruising seminar week.

 – With a broad spectrum of pertinent topics, well-known speakers will offer practical advice and encourage group discussion.

 – Access is free to all resident and visiting cruising sailors. Lanzarote Long Distance Voyaging Seminars

One of the year’s most engaging events for cruisers, the Lanzarote Long Distance Voyaging Seminars Week has now attracted its own following amongst transatlantic visitors stopping in the Canaries. A week of relevant topics that embraces practical sailing and routing advice, financial planning, communication at sea, family cruising and environmental topics attracts both first-timers and perennial crossers. The broadly international and multigenerational audience have much to offer to discussions which often reveal plenty of surprising and useful tips and experiences.

Jimmy Cornell will be presenting a new subject this year that will be of much interest to many, especially those working and studying within the nautical industry, entitled “The Global Cruising Scene Today”. The talk, which will be offered separately in English and Spanish and includes time for questions, draws on 30 years of experience collating statistics on the global yacht movement, focussing on world distribution of cruising yachts and strategic hubs around the world. Jimmy also looks at the latest trends in the global movement and at major concerns and other subjects of interest to anyone planning a long voyage.

Speakers confirmed for this international event include Doina Cornell, Pascal Giraudou, Sönke Röver, Luc Callebaut, Dr. Paolo Cassoni and Pete Anderson.

Most of the seminars will be held in the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, in Lanzarote with a practical afternoon of safety demonstrations in Marina Lanzarote. The week is organised by Cornell Sailing and sponsored by the Canary Islands Tourism Authority, Turismo Lanzarote and Calero Marinas, with support from ANAVRE, Salvamento Maritimo and the Instituto Marítimo-Pesquero de Canarias.

The seminars will take place from the 12 – 16th September, with safety simulations on Saturday the 17th September. The event is planned this year to time with the Barbados 50 cruising rally, starting in London in July this year and commemorating Barbados’ 50 years of independence.
