Porto Cervo, 10 May 2025 — Following its participation in the first event of the year in the British Virgin Islands, the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team returns to the water with renewed ambition for the second leg of the international 44Cup circuit, to be held from 14 to 18 May in the iconic Italian sailing venue of Porto Cervo, on the Costa Smeralda in Sardinia.
This event continues the team’s commitment to high-level sailing and marks a clear evolution in structure and resources: in Porto Cervo, the team will debut its new boat, designed and tailored to meet the needs of a crew that blends international experience with homegrown talent.
Project director and team tactician Alfredo González highlights the team’s evolution: “With each event we compete in, the challenge grows, and so does our drive to push further. It all comes down to unity—working together with increasing coordination and synchronisation. We’re growing as a team, and that’s becoming evident both on and off the water.”
Strategy, visibility, and technical alliances
This sporting evolution comes hand in hand with the consolidation of an ecosystem of sponsors and partners that make the project possible. This edition welcomes Equipyatch as a new technical partner, supplying equipment from top-tier brands Harken and Gottifredi Maffioli, leaders in high-performance sailing technology
The team also continues to count on the strong support of Magic Marine, official technical apparel provider, whose values of performance, comfort, and design are present in every manoeuvre both on and off the water.
Crucially, the project is proudly supported by Turismo de Lanzarote and the Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo (CACTs), who view this initiative as a platform to project the island’s vision of blue and sports tourism—connecting elite competition with sustainability and destination excellence.
A growing circuit
With 11 boats on the starting line, the 44Cup Porto Cervo marks a milestone for the class. New teams such as Black Star Sailing Team and Wow! Sailing Team join the fleet, featuring internationally renowned sailors like Iker Martínez. In this highly competitive environment, the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team stands as a unique project that represents the Canary Islands through a blend of international racing, talent development, and territorial identity.
Porto Cervo is a venue steeped in sailing history and one of the most anticipated stops on the calendar. Hosted by the prestigious Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, the event will feature official training on 14 May, with scoring races taking place from 15 to 18 May.
More than racing – a long-term vision With this momentum, the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team continues to move forward with its long-term plan: to grow within the RC44 class, provide a platform for young sailors from Lanzarote to develop, and offer a powerful vehicle of visibility for brands committed to sport, sustainability, and the future
