Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team finishes third day of racing with a podium

Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team finishes third day of racing with a podium
  • Events,News

Porto Cervo, 17 May 2025: The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team continues its upward trajectory at the 44Cup Porto Cervo, closing out its third day of racing with a well-earned podium finish in the final race of the day. The Canarian team, increasingly established within the fleet, proves that its place in the circuit is no coincidence, but the result of ambition, heritage, and the courage of a fully committed crew.

Today’s conditions were entirely different from those of previous days. The sea state was significantly calmer, allowing for cleaner and more tactical sailing. The breeze started from 130° at 8–9 knots, gradually building throughout the day and reaching up to 11 knots at the top mark. These changing conditions favoured strategic decision-making and rewarded teams able to adapt and execute effectively.

The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team maintained sharp focus throughout the day, scoring a 5th place in the second race and finishing the day on a high note with an impressive 3rd place in the final heat—further proof of the team’s steady progress within the competitive RC44 fleet.

“Today was about fine decisions. We read the long legs well and maintained good pace in the transitions. The team is becoming more connected each day, and that’s clearly showing in the results,” said Alfredo González, the team’s tactician.

The team proudly represents Lanzarote and Spain, carrying their name across the world’s top sailing venues. This journey is made possible thanks to a solid group of sponsors who believe in sport as a platform for visibility, identity, and shared values: Turismo Lanzarote, Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo de Lanzarote (CACT), Calero Marinas, Calmar, Lanzarote Investment, and John Woods Real Estate are all fundamental pillars of the project.

On the technical and logistical side, the team benefits from the trusted support of Harken (via Equipyacht) and Gottifredi Maffioli, key suppliers ensuring optimal performance onboard, along with Alegra Travel, the official travel partner managing the team’s international logistics.

With just one day remaining in the event, the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team heads into the final stretch with renewed confidence and a clear determination to continue proving that the nautical tradition of the Canary Islands is not just a legacy, but a driving force in the present and future of the RC44 class—a class where more and more talented Spanish sailors are making their mark across the international fleet.
