It is the fantastic racing conditions and warm hospitality that draw us back to the Island time and time again. Having hosted seven RC44 events, the Calero family have always created a friendly atmosphere within their port which has become a home-from-home for many of our teams. With extensive shore-side support from the Calero Marinas Shipyard, the new port offers the fleet everything we need. Additionally, we anticipate an extra element of public interest and excitement due to the location of this lively marina in the heart of the island’s capital.”

The economic impact of an event such as this in Lanzarote is considerable. Previous RC44 regattas have attracted accompanying superyachts with some owners arriving in private aircraft. Around 10 teams of 12 crew and technical support are expected to arrive, together with the professional race committee required to ensure that the rules are met and the event is run safely. In Lanzarote, the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife will be assisting the committee on the water with invaluable local knowledge.

Calero Marina’s Managing Director José Juan Calero commented: “We are delighted to welcome the RC44 fleet back to Lanzarote. The Canarian and local Lanzarote government have of course played an important role in supporting a culture of top level professional sport in local island waters which are now recognised as some of the best racing grounds in the world – in large part thanks to the RC44 events. This coming Autumn will be a thrilling time for Lanzarote, and we look forward to welcoming back a lot of old friends and watching some spectacular action out on the water.”

The 2017 RC44 Championship Tour kicks month in Spain with the RC44 Sotogrande Cup, followed by regattas in Porto Cervo (Italy), Marstrand (Sweden) and Cascais (Portugal) before the grand finale in Lanzarote.

For more information about the RC44 Class and racing schedule, visit the website: www.rc44.com

The RC44 Class Association has confirmed Arrecife, Lanzarote as host for the final regatta of the 2017 RC44 Championship Tour, in partnership with Calero Marinas.
