The island of Lanzarote has already been steadily developing a deservedly solid reputation as a vibrant sports destination. The perfect climate for outdoor sports and wind conditions required for watersports mean that enthusiasts can come and train all year round. Individual localities are now embedded in the culture of the island from specialist training village Club La Santa and the more relaxed surfing and kite surfing community in Famara to the windsurf haven of Costa Teguise and centres in Fuerteventura.  Diving is also popular with numerous schools across the island and especially good diving opportunities around the islets of La Graciosa and Alegranza in the Chinijo Marine Reserve.

For a fun afternoon, there are two good go-karting tracks only about 15-20 minutes from either marina. Buggies, mopeds and segways can also be rented. It’s worth checking the events list for local fairs and festivals to see what’s going on around the island. The site www.lanzaroteinformation.com can help with information in English on concerts taking place in local bars and clubs.

For those requiring more of an adrenaline buzz, the island also offers great possibilities for paragliding. Have a look through the European Sports Destination guides in the “Why the Canaries“ section of this website for contacts.

Both marinas offer a good range of accommodation options nearby. Puerto Calero, an inclusive resort is home to two hotels, luxury villas and quiet apartment complexes with large pools.

Marina Lanzarote is minutes from hotels and pensions. Please ask for advice in the Marina Office or by contacting:  marinas@caleromarinas.com
